Carbon cycle 2.0 Flashcards
Relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration (including the equations)
Product of one’s process is the reactant of another
Cellular respiration: Glucose + oxygen –> CO2 + water
PHS: CO2 + water -(sunlight)–> Glucose + oxygen
Explain/ describe the process of cellular respiration & photosynthesis
- Cellular respiration carried out by all organisms release CO2 into the atmosphere
- Photosynthesis removes CO2 from the atmosphere to form carbon-containing molecules in green plants
Effects of a high concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere
- GHGs such as CO2 trap heat in the atmosphere
- Build up of GHGs may lead to global warming/ extreme climate
> which is an increase in the avg. temp. of the earth’s atmosphere
Effect of enzymes in PHS
- Made of proteins
- Present in the chloroplast of plants
- Speed up the rate or reaction on the process of PHS
Definition of ATP and word equation for the transfer of chemical energy from plants to animals
ATP - molecule for storing and transferring energy in cells
Glucose + Oxygen –> CO2 + Water + chemical energy in the form of ATP
What do you call a horizontal line in a graph
[…] eventually ~plateaus~ as […]
What do you call enzymes which don’t function anymore (or have died)
Denatured (possibly due to high temp.)
