capsular patterns Flashcards
contractile tissue
tissue can contract or is attached to a tissue that can contact
Inert Tissue
tissue has no ability to contract or relax
tissue is loaded by stretch force or compression
examples of inert tissue
joint capsule, ligament, fascia, blood vessels, articular cartilage, bone, meniscus (and bursa)
nervous tissue
- nerve tissue and connective tissue surrounding the nerves
- load is placed on nerve tissue by stretch tensile or compression forces
Glenohumeral Joint Capsular Pattern
Greatest loss of lateral rotation, moderate loss of abduction and minimal loss of medial rotation
elbow complex capsular pattern
loss of flexion greater than loss of extension; rotations full and painless except in advanced cases
Forearm capsular pattern
equal loss of supination and pronation, only happens if elbow has a marked restriction
CMC digit 1 capsular pattern
loss of abduction that is greater than extension
CMC digits 2-5 capsular pattern
equal loss of all motions
MCP and IP joints
equal loss of flexion and extension
restricted in all motions but loss of flexion greater than loss of other motions
Hip capsular pattern
greatest loss of medial rotation and flexion, some abduction loss and slight loss of extension, little or no loss of adduction and lateral rotation
Knee
loss of flexion is greater than extension
ankle
loss of plantar flexion greater than dorsiflexion
subtalar joint capsular pattern
loss of inversion
Midtarsal capsular pattern
loss of inversion which consists of adduction and medial rotation, full other motions
