Capnography Flashcards
1
Q
What does capnography measure?
A
Ventilation & O2 Metabolism
2
Q
What is high CO2 caused by?
A
Hypoventilation
3
Q
What does shark fin capnography wave form indicate?
A
Partial lung obstruction (CORD / bronchospasm) or partial airway obstruction (kinking / trachea secretions).
4
Q
What is low CO2 caused by?
A
Hyperventilation
5
Q
What is relaxant CO2 waveform notches caused by?
A
Relaxant (ie vercuronium) wearing off & diaphragm starting to twitch.
Seen as small notched dips in middle of waves
6
Q
What are cardiac CO2 notches?
A
HB against lungs appears as repetitive notches on waveform.
7
Q
What CO2 waveform is seen in esophageal intubation?
A
Decreasing waveform to zero due to left over CO2 in stomach.
