Capital Punishment Flashcards

“Eye for an eye” punishment is deserved if that person had done something bad to another. What has been dealt to others should be dealt to the dealer.
Counter argument - pacifist non Christian
“An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind” Gandhi - is it acceptable to kill another because he has killed someone else? Doubling amount of deaths
Argument against - Christian
Christians are no longer bound to old scriptures. Many punishments have been changed and we should eliminate the death penalty to. Capital punishment is playing God
“Only God can just us”
Counter argument for - different Christian
Even the New Testament, Jesus says that God had said it is okay for the government to use capital punishment
Argument for - atheist
It protects people from dangerous people like murderers and it helps the family of the victim feel safer that he is dead
Counter argument against - anyone against capital punishment
Many convicted murderers are later found innocent and been pardoned. There is chance to pardon that person is innocent if there is no death penalty e.g. Claude Jones
Argument for - Christian
Paul writes that the magistrate who holds authority “does not bear the sword in vain, for he is te servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer”
Argument against - Christian
The value of human life is extremely valuable and precious and the death penalty denies the sacredness of this. “All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made” (John) or “we were made in the image of God”
