Attitudes Towards War Flashcards
War is wrong as the Old Testament teaches - (Micah)
The prophet Micah said one day all the world would be at peace and all weapons would be made into farming tools “nor will they train for war anymore”
War is wrong as - Commandment
The 6th Commandment says “do not murder”
War is wrong as proverbs teach God hates…
“Hands that shed innocent blood”
War is wrong as Jesus is a pacifist -
He would not follow Satan and rode into Jerusalem on a donkey instead of a horse symbolising his will to not fight
War is wrong as when Jesus was getting arrested in Gethsemane he taught -
“Those who live by the sword die by the sword”
War is wrong as Jesus believed you should never retaliate and repay violence with violence
“Turn the other cheek”
War is wrong as Jesus taught
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”
St Paul taught -
“Overcome evil with good”
War is correct as the Old Testament teaches -
“The Lord is a warrior” as he advises them to battle and destroy everything including the women and children - God told Sault to go and kill all of the Amalekites
War is correct in contrast with Micah -
“Prepare for war” and “Beat your ploughshares into swords”
War is correct as you can have a Holy War

•Retrieve countries that were once Christian
•Rescue Christians from the infidels
•Recover places that are being ‘polluted’
•Avenge blasphemous acts done to Christians

Spiritual reward such as acception in heaven
War is correct - example of holy wars
In October 312 CE when Constantine saw a vision of a cross in the sky and the cross inscribed on his soldiers armour. He won the battle even though outnumbered they won using pagan enchantment.
The Crusades lasted 1095 to 1291 CE. There aim was to capture holy land from muslims.
War is correct if it is a just war -
Just war says whether you’ve got the right to fight
