cancers of the skin Flashcards
Ultraviolet radiation is a proven human carcinogen (WHO Group 1 carcinogen)
yep
presentation:
- punched out- red plaque or nodule
- gritty scale
- met. potential
- can be deepply invasive
squamous cell carcinoma
squamous cell carcinoma can arise from pre-existing
actinic keratoses
** rough, scaly patch on your skin that develops from years of exposure to the sun. … Also known as a solar keratosis, an actinic keratosis enlarges slowly and usually causes no signs or symptoms other than a patch or small spot on your skin
keratoachanthoma
squamous cell carcinoma:
- rapidly growing, exophytic
- very low met risk
- spontaneous remission
Bowen’s disease
squamous cell carcinoma:
- slow growing
- flat with silver scale
- arsenic exposure
- esophageal cancer link

C
D
A- asymmetry
B- border irregular
C- color change or more than 1 color
D- diameter change or more than 6mm
dysplastic nevus
atypical mole- mole whose appearance is different from that of common moles. they are more likely to develop into melanoma and individuals with multiple dysplastic nevi are at increased risk for developing melanoma
Melanoma type:
least aggressive, often arises on head/neck in sundamged skin
Lentigo Maligna –
Melanoma type:
– most aggressive
Nodular Melanoma
Melanoma type:
most common melanoma in non-Caucasian populations, but least common melanoma overall
Acral Lentiginous –
Breslow Depth –
depth measured from the stratum granulosum to the deepest point of invasion:
treatment of BCCs and SCCs
electrodesiccation and curretage
radiation therapy in treatment of BCCs and SCCs
not the best, tumor might recur due to radiation exposure
melanoma treatment
