What is an establishing shot?
The background and setting are the focus. It establishes where and when the “still” takes place. It makes the subject insignificant.
What is a long shot?
The subject is seen from head to foot. The focus is on body movement and gesture.
What is a medium shot?
The subject is viewed from the waist upwards. The focus is on gesture and facial expressions.
What is a close-up shot?
The subject’s head (face) fills the frame. The focus is on facial expression and emotion.
What is an extreme close-up shot?
One portion of the subject fills the frame. The focus is on detail.
What is a shot?
A shot is the distance (how far or close) between the camera and the subject matter.
