What is a Long Shot?
Captures the location with the main focus on the subject, filling the entire frame from head to toes. Focus on where the subject is and what they are doing.
What is a Medium Shot?
Frames the subject from the waist up, commonly used to focus on actions or dialogue, resembling a natural conversational perspective.
What is a Cowboy Shot?
Positioned between a long and medium shot, framing the subject from the mid-thigh up, often used to show details around the waist like a gun.
What is a Tight - close up?
Frames the head and shoulders of the subject, emphasizing facial expressions and conveying emotions, commonly used in intimate or intense scenes.
What is a Detail - extreme close up?
The closest shot to the subject or object of significance, bringing mystery and depth to the story, typically captured with a 50-100mm lens.
What is a Low angle?
Captured from a low perspective, portraying dominance and power. Also portrays wonder, or majesty when the subject is smaller than the surroundings.
What is a High angle?
Captured from a high perspective, portraying weakness, inferiority, or vulnerability.
What is a Dutch angle?
A frame slightly tilted to convey that something isn’t right or to add tension or disorientation.
What is a Over the shoulder shot? What should you pay attention to when using this angle?
Positions the camera behind one character’s shoulder, giving the viewer the impression of being involved in the conversation. Make sure to stay on the same side otherwise it is confusing for the viewer.
What is a POV shot?
Lets the viewer take the perspective of the subject, helping them understand the subject’s point of view more easily.
What is a Cutaway shot?
A drastic switch of perspective used to tell a side story or transition to a different scene.
