ca-thorax Flashcards
tension pneumothorax
hypotension neck vein distention hyper resonant to percussion affected hemithorax feels distended, tense, and poorly compressible to palpation
open pneumothorax
chest pain dyspnea (difficulty breathing) tachypnea (rapid breathing) tachycardia (rapid heart rate) hyperresonant to percussion air entering wound = makes characteristic sucking sound physical findings can be normal if pneumothorax is small
partial aortic disruption
may have multiple rib fractures
chest pain
upper extremity pulse deficits
harsh systolic murmur
decreased BP / pulse in lower extremities compared to upper
can be caused by severe deceleration
most occur near the ligament arteriosum
Cardiac Tamponade
patient in variable degrees of shock or in extremis
neck veins distended
decreased arterial and pulse pressures
heart sounds distant
venous pressure elevated (pathognomonic)
