C7 Energy Changes Flashcards
How do normal cells work?
Goes flat as chemicals used up.
How do rechargeable cell work?
When recharging, chemical reactions reversed to reproduce the chemical used up.
How do fuel cells work?
Chemicals pumped in to replace those used up.
What is an Exothermic reaction?
An exothermic reaction is one that transfers or gives out heat energy to the surroundings so the temperature of the surroundings increase.
What is an Endothermic reactions?
An endothermic reaction is one that transfers or take in energy from the surroundings so the temperature of surroundings decreases.
Examples of Exothermic reactions?
Neutralisation
Respiration
Reddox/ Displacement
Combustion
Examples of Endothermic reactions?
Thermal decomposistion
Elcetroloysis
Acid + Hydrogencarbonate
What is activation energy?
The minimum amount of energy required for a chemical reaction to occur.
