“IM PHHAT AS”

I - Iron deficiency anemia: From excessive loss or inadequate intake of iron
M - Megaloblastic anemia: B12 and folic acid deficiency

P - Pernicious anemia: Low production of intrinsic factor leading to B12 deficiency
H - Hemorrhagic anemia: Excessive blood loss
HA - Hemolytic anemia: Rupture of RBC caused by parasites, toxins or antibodies
T - Thalassemia: Genetic condition leading to lowered synthesis of hemoglobin

A - Aplastic anemia: Destruction of red bone marrow caused by toxins or radiation.
S - Sickle cell anemia: Genetic condition where RBC have abnormal, sickle shape
