C5 Aerodrome and Obstruction Lighting Flashcards
What is Eco mode?
When should it be used?
The use of Eco mode, when there are no aircraft movements, is encouraged by the Aerodrome Authority for environmental and economical reasons
Runway Eco mode: Deselects all runway and approach lighting
Taxiway Eco mode: Deselects predetermined alternate taxiway centreline lights
When should Eco mode not be used?
- In snow and ice conditions
- When RVR readings are required
- Aircraft are manoeuvring or are being towed on the airfield
- When required in MATS Part 1
What actions should be taken when PAPIs are unserviceable during day and night?
Can aircraft make an approach when PAPIs are unserviceable?
Fully serviceable PAPIs are required for all instruments approaches for both day and night operations.
If the PAPIs are reported as or believed to be unserviceable then inbound traffic will be advised and their intentions requested.
Aircraft may continue to make approaches at the crew’s discretion
The WM and ADM shall be informed. If required the information shall be disseminated via the ATIS and NOTAM if unserviceability is expected to exceed 2 hours
What is MALMS?
Mobile Airfield Light Monitoring System
A photometric test of the runway lighting performed by airfield electricians at night
(Maintenance mode - MALMS - presets e.g. centreline 100%)
