Q

What are the Push and Park procedures?

A
  • ACC can request Push and Park relocation of an operator to use the facilities more efficiently. This will usually be to an unoccupied remote stand.
  • Operators requesting the allocation of push and park stands must contact ACC to ascertain availability
  • Except for the Elmdon Apron ground crew must be in attendance prior to departure
  • Self-manoeuvring is not permitted even on self-manoeuvring stands unless in exceptional circumstances
  • Remote parking in the Manoeuvring Area will be decided by ATC and should only be considered at the time of the request and should not be considered for durations longer than 10 minutes

Q

What are the procedures for taxiway Juliet during LVOs?

How are movements to/from Hanger 5 managed?

A

During low visibility operations the ASU will deploy barriers across the taxiway at Juliet 1. This will allow the uncontrolled crossing to remain operating.

A

Only Code A to C aircraft (up to B737 size) are allowed to taxi around the Alpha loop

Aircraft up to and including Code E (up to B787 size) on taxiway Alpha may pass aircraft holding in the loop

Only when vacating from runway 15

38
Q

What are the restrictions for the use of Taxiway Tango?

A

If an aircraft is holding at T1 no other aircraft is allowed to taxi behind it

No Code E aircraft or larger can route between T1 and D1

Aircraft are not allowed to route from T4 to T5 or U2 at any time, taxiway Tango should only be used in a Westerly direction except for A380 movements

Taxiway Tango should not be used between 2300 and 0700 local

39
Q

Stand 80 is included in restrictions

Aircraft commanders are asked to use minimum breakaway thrust on taxiways T and U

41
Q

What are the procedures for crossing inoperable red stop bars?

A

When the withdrawal of an inoperable stop-bar is not possible and the stop-bar cannot be readily supressed:

“Stop-bar unserviceable, cross red stop-bar at (holding point)”

The vehicle or aircraft must be visible to the controller or ASMGCS may be used. Otherwise a follow me vehicle is required.

42
Q

When may conditional clearances to enter the runway be used?

A

When it is considered necessary to the traffic situation

When the aircraft concerned can be seen by both controller and pilot

43
Q

Give example conditional clearances for

  1. Lining up behind landing traffic
  2. Lining up behind departing traffic
A
  1. RYR123 behind the landing B757 via E1 line up runway 33 behind
  2. EXS145 behind the departing B737 via S1 line up runway 33 behind
44
Q

Can vehicles be given conditional clearances?

A

Only the Airport Fire Services whilst attending an incident

45
Q

What considerations should be taken for aircraft making a Non-Precision Approach?

A

No aircraft shall be lined up for departure ahead of an NPA aircraft inside 6NM from touchdown unless the Air controller has two-way communication with the NPA aircraft

46
Q

In which circumstances should a take-off clearance be cancelled after an aircraft has started it’s take-off roll?

A

When the aircraft will be in serious and imminent danger should it continue

47
Q

At what point will a departing jet aircraft reach 80kts?

A

Approximately 300m

48
Q

When has an aircraft vacated the runway?

A

When the tail of the aircraft is clear of the runway and the aircraft is continuing in the anticipated direction

During LVOs when observed on the ASMGCS to be clear of the LSA

49
Q

When has a vehicle vacated the runway?

A

When it has passed the runway exit holding point

Tower controllers are to obtain positive confirmation by R/T that the vehicle has vacated the runway

50
Q

What considerations should be taken when large aircraft are vacating the runway full-length with traffic on approach?

A

If the landing aircraft is likely to get landing clearance within 2NM from touchdown the Air controller will pass a warning that an interruption to the localiser signal may occur

51
Q

What is the procedure for switching the ILS on to a different runway after being turned off?

A

RISDU keyswitch initially turned to the original runway direction, then opposite direction selected after 30 seconds to allow the DME to synchronise with the ILS

52
Q

What are the weather limits for circuits?

A

As soon as practicable after passing altitude 2000ft

54
Q

What actions should be taken on receipt of a windshear report?

A

The information is to be related to subsequent inbound and outbound aircraft until confirmation is received that the condition no longer exists. This is achieved by RT transmission until the information is on the ATIS.

55
Q

What actions should be taken on receipt of a severe icing/turbulence report?

A

The information is to be related to subsequent inbound and outbound aircraft until confirmation is received that the condition no longer exists. This is achieved by RT transmission until the information is on the ATIS.

The normal RFFS Category required for A380 operations is 10.

Birmingham has a remission to operate scheduled A380 movements with RFFS Category 9

58
Q

What are the taxiway restrictions for A380 movements?

A

A departing A380 requiring full length must be held at A2 or S2 to avoid interference of the navaids

When an A380 is on taxiway Alpha or Sierra the largest aircraft permitted to use the runway is Code E (B787 size)

A380s are permitted to use taxiway Tango routing east and taxiway Uniform

The Alpha loop is unavailable if an A380 is using taxiway Alpha between A4 and A1

Whenever an A380 is between E2 and E4 only aircraft up to Code D size (B757) can route between D6 and D7

Only aircraft up to Code C size (B737) can pass an A380 between E7 and D1/D2 and vice versa
