Stress
A stress response of the body to a demand made upon it resulting in arousal of the sympathetic NS
Arousal
mental and physical activation before, during and after a sport event
Chronic stress
long term illness and has an uncertain outcome
Distant stressors
a bad experience in the past that still impacts the future responses

a chain of related events
Drive theory
- A direct relationship between arousal and performance
- when arousal increased so did the perform ace
Inverted-U theory
- arousal increases and performance improves to a certain point
- After reaching this optimal level, further increases in arousal lead to a decline in performance
Anxiety
- a temporary ever changing emotional state
