What does the autonomic ns contain?

A

(internal environment)afferent nerves (sensory signals from internal organs to the CNS), efferent nerves(motor signals from the CNS to the internal organs)

Q

What does it mean when we say that sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves are two-stage neural paths?

A

It means that they project from the CNS and and go only part of the way to the target organs before they synapse on other neurons (second stage neurons)

10
Q

How do the parasymphatetic and sympathetic nerves differ when it comes to the two-stage neural paths?

A

The parasympathetic nerves, in comparison to the sympathetic ones, synapse near their target organs on very short second stage neurons.

Q

What’s the functions of the symp. and parasymp systems?

A
  1. Parasymp conserves energy, symp mobilizes energy in life threatening situations
2.each autonomic target receives opposing symp and parasymp input and its activity is controlled by relative levels of them
3.symp is an indicator of psychological arousal, where as parasymp psychological relaxation.

Q

Do the nerves of the peripheral nervous system project from the spinal cord?

A

Most of them, but there are 12 pairs of cranial nerves that are exceptions and project from the brain

13
Q

Three characteristics of the cranial nerves.

A
  1. They include purely sensory nerves such as olfactory nerves and optic nerves, but must contain both motor and sensory fibers.
  2. The longest cranial nerves are the vague nerves
  3. The autonomic motor fibers of the cranial nerves are parasympathetic

Q

What are the three meninges?

A
  1. Outer meninx= dura mater
2.Arachnoid membrane (a space underneath called subarachnoid membrane contains large blood vessels and cerebrospinal fluid)
  2. Pia mater

16
Q

Are there Golgi apparatum in the terminal buttons?

A

Yes. Because the protein transport goes both wait, so they need incapsulation.

17
Q

What’s the purpose of the membrane?

A

FAcilitates communication between ext and int of the cell through transmembrane proteins and separates the cell.

18
Q

What is a pyramidal axon?

A

A long axon that projects on long distances

19
Q

What is a granular axon?

A

A short axon with implications in the local circuits.

20
Q

What does the citosol contain?

A

Water plus ions plus proteins

21
Q

Where can you find lichid cefalorahidian?

A

In the subarachnoid space and the ventriculs.

22
Q

How are the cells in the cortical areas distributed?

A

In layers.

23
Q

Where can you find the subtanta cenusie?

A

In the CNS.
