2
Q

How are ionic bonds formed?

A

Metal atoms lose one or more electrons to form positive ions - non metal atoms gain electrons to form negative ions

9
Q

Describe the configuration of atoms in a solid metal

A

They are close together and the outer shell electrons overlap. The outer shell electrons are free to move around the see of electrons

15
Q

Why does reactivity of alkali metals increase as you go down the group?

A

The elements at the bottom of the group have more electrons and more electron shells. The reactions happen by losing outer electrons. There are more in the atoms of the elements at the bottoms of the groups so they are more reactive

16
Q

What is a halogen?

A

An element that is corrosive and toxic

17
Q

What is a displacement reaction?

A

Some elements are more reactive than others . A reactive metal will displace a less reactive one in a reaction

18
Q

What is formed between the reaction of of halogens and hydrogen?

A

Hydrogen halides

19
Q

What is formed when hydrogen halides are dissolved in water?

A

Acids

20
Q

Where are noble gasses located on the periodic table?

A

In group 0

21
Q

Noble gasses are inert, what does that mean?

A

It is very difficult to make them react with anything

22
Q

Why are noble gasses inert?

A

They have full outer shells which makes them difficult to react them with anything
