Q

Describe the steps in the OODA loop

A

Observe - Commander gathers as much information as possible to inform a decision. Increasing the amount of valuable information increases the number of factors that can be considered in the decision-making process, which allows for better decisions. Reduce uncertainty as much as possible.

Orient - Commander forms an understanding of the gathered information by forming estimations, judgments, and conclusions from the provided data. This shapes the Commander’s perception of reality. Goal is to understand the battle space as accurately as possible.

Decide - Commander formulates and disseminates COA. Intent must be communicated at all levels so execution is as intended.

Act - Actions that are carried out by the subordinates. Observations gathered during this to inform the next decision.

Q

Explain detailed control

A

Centralized command and control
Orders and plans are explicit
Use when time is not a constraint
Vertical flow of information
Does not function well under rapidly changing circumstances or when lines of communication have been disrupted
