1
Q

What’s theoretical yield

A

The expected yield - maximum amount of product that can be formed from that reactant

Calculated from the balanced equation

A

The product obtained when you actsully carry out the experiment

Q

How do you calculate percentage yield

A

It compare the actual yield to the theoretical yield

Actual yield divided by theoretical yield X 100

Q

Why are the yields less than expected

A

The reaction could be incomplete so not all reactant used up

Some product is lost eg spillage

Unwanted side reactions taking place - some reactants may make a different product - side reactions compete with the main reaction

Q

What does the higher the percentage yield mean

A

The more useful the reaction is - a high yield means fewer raw materials are used to make the Same amount of product
So there less waste and more profit
