Explain how refractory periods influence 3 properties of APs.
- All or nothing - Because of the refractory period, AP’s can’t summate
- Frequency of AP’s - The refractory period sets a theoretical limit because in that 1ms another AP can’t fire.
- Unidirectional - During refractory period, the region behind the impulse is already repolarizing, therefore it can’t go backwards.
