Q

Explain how refractory periods influence 3 properties of APs.

A
  • All or nothing - Because of the refractory period, AP’s can’t summate
  • Frequency of AP’s - The refractory period sets a theoretical limit because in that 1ms another AP can’t fire.
  • Unidirectional - During refractory period, the region behind the impulse is already repolarizing, therefore it can’t go backwards.
