A

What are 2 ways to prevent rusting?

A

Barrier Method - painting, greasing and electroplating iron to keep out water and oxygen.
Sacrificial method - attaching a more reactive metal to iron.

A

Water that is safe to drink.

What are the 3 steps to treat ground water?

A
  1. Mesh - to remove any large debris such as twigs
  2. Sand and gravel filtration - to remove any solid bits
  3. Sterilisation - to kill off any harmful bacteria or microbes using chlorine gas, ozone or UV light.

What is desalination?

A

It’s carried out in areas without much fresh water to make sea water potable.
Such as distillation - boiling the water to separate it from dissolved salts.

What is the treatment of waste water?

A
  1. Screening - remove large solid debris
  2. Sedimentation -allowing solid particles to settle to the bottom of the tank
  3. Effluent does through aerobic digestion of organic matter and is released back into the environment
  4. Sludge does through anaerobic digestion of matter and is created into fertiliser and natural gas.
