C1- Structure of Respiratory System Flashcards
Respiratory Tract, Mechanics of Breathing
What is the order of the respiratory structure?
Nasal Cavity
Pharynx
Epiglottis
Larynx
Trachea
Bronchi
Bronchioles
Alveoli
Diaphragm
What are the 2 functions of the nasal cavity?
Allows respiration and filters dust
What are the 2 functions of the pharynx?
Transports air and food
What is the function of the epiglottis?
A flap preventing food from entering the trachea
What is the function of the larynx?
Acts as a vocal chord
What is the function of the trachea?
Carries air in and out of the lungs
What is the function of the bronchi? (transport air from where to where)
Transport the air from the trachea into the lung
What is the function of the bronchioles? (What does it carry)
Carries air to small sacs in the lungs called alveoli
What is the function of the alveoli?
It facilitates the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and the bloodstream
What is the function of the diaphragm?
It facilitates inhalation and exhalation by either contracting (flattening) or relaxing (dome shape)
