B4 - Adaptations to the Muscular System Flashcards
Hypertrophy, Tendons, Mitochondria, Myoglobin, Fuel Stores, Lactate Tolerance
What are the 7 adaptations of the muscular system?
Hypertrophy
Increased tendon strength
Increased mitochondria
Increased myoglobin
Increased glycogen stores
Increased fat storage
Increased lactate tolerance
What is hypertrophy?
When the muscles in the body strengthen and get larger over time
What is increased tendon strength?
When the tendons become stronger and more pliable
What is increased mitochondria?
Improves the aerobic capabilities of the muscles
What is increased myoglobin?
Satisfies the demands in the muscles
What is increased glycogen stores?
Larger glycogen stores mean the body can exercise for longer at higher intensities
What is increased fat storage?
Availability of fuel
What is increased lactate tolerance?
When the body improves it can deal with lactic better
