What is the name of the group 8 elements
Noble gases
Which elements exist as molecules (Diatomic) and have a little 2 to show this
I Bring Clay For Our New House
Iodine
Bromine

What is a compound
A substance that contains two or more elements
What is an ion
A charged particle formed when an atom loses or gains an electron
What are the 4 state symbols
Solid, Liquid, Gas, Aqueous
What is a mixture
Two or more elements not chemically bonded
What are the 4 ways in which you can separate a mixture
Chromatography, Filtration, Distillation, Crystallisation
What is filtration
It is used to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid
What is Crystallisation
Crystallisation is used to create solid crystals from a solution
when the solution is heated some of the solvent evaporates leaving the crystals behind
What is distillation
When a mixture of 2 liquids with different boiling points is heated
The mixture is heated, the liquid wit the lower boiling point evaporates and is then condensed
What is chromatography
Mixtures are separated based on their solubility
Substances travel up the paper and travel different lengths depending on their solubility
Describe the plum pudding model
Protons-ball of positive charge
Electrons-randomly scatterd
Neutrons-None
Nucleus-None
Describe the nuclear model
Protons-In the nucleus
Electrons-Orbit in shells
Neutrons-In the nucleus
Nucleus-Has a nucleus
What is similar about elements in the same group
They have the same number of electrons on their outer shell
Similar properties
What is similar about elements in the same period
They have the same number of electron shells
What is an element, a compound and a mixture
Element-A substance that only contains one type of atom
Compound-2 or more elements that are chemically bonded
Mixture-2 or more different atoms that are not chemically bonded
What is the conservation of mass rule
In a chemical reaction mass is never lost, you must start and finish with the same mass
Why does it sometimes appear that there is less products than reactants
Sometimes gas is made and has escaped into the atmosphere
What is a pure and impure substance
Pure-Only contains one type of element of compound
Impure-Contains more than one type of element or compound
What is the atomic number
Number of protons
What is the mass number
Number of protons and neutrons
What are the masses and charges of the 3 subatomic particles
. Mass Charge
Proton 1 +1
Neutron 1 0
Electron 0 -1
How do you calculate the Rf value
Distance moved by substance
Distance moved by solvent
