C-Spine & T-Spine Flashcards
Compression Fracture
Involves collapse of a vertebral body, which results from flexing or axial loading most often in the thoracic and lumber regions
Hangman’s Fracture
The fracture extends through the pedicles of C2, with or without subluxation of C2 on C3
Jefferson Fracture
Comminuted fracture (crushed at site of impact) occurs as a result of axial loading, such as that produced by landing one’s head or abruptly on one’s feet. (C1)
Kyphosis
An abnormal or exaggerated convex curvature of the thoracic spine that results in stooped posture and reduced height
Scoliosis
An abnormal or exaggerated lateral curvature of the spine
Spondylitis
Inflammation of the vertebrae
Spondylosis
Neck stiffness due to age-related degeneration of invertebrate disks.
Teardrop Burst Fracture
Mechanism of injury is compression with hyperflexion in the cervical region.
