What are the characteristics of CD?
a repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in which the basic rights of others or major age-appropriate societal norms or rules are violated; physical aggression is common and peer relationships are disturbed
What are the genetic predisposing factors of CD?
genetic probability
what are temperate signs in early life that are associated with CD?
signs of an irritable temperament, poor compliance, inattentiveness and impulsivity as early as age 2 may show signs of CD in later ages
What are family predisposing factors for an adolescent with CD?
parental rejection, inconsistent or harsh punitive discipline, parental sociopathy, lack of prenatal supervision, frequent changes in residence, economic stressors, parents with antisocial personality disorder/alcohol or substance dependence, and divorce
What is the diagnosis criteria for determining CD?
3/15 symptoms present within the last 12 months with at least one criterion present within the last 6 months
AGGRESSION TO PEOPLE/ANIMALS: bullies/threatens/ intimidates others, initiates physical fights, has used a weapon that can cause serious physical harm, has been physically cruel to people or animals, has stole while confronting a victim, has forced someone into sexual activity
DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: deliberately engaged in fire setting with the intention of causing serious harm, has deliberately destroyed others property
DECEITFULNESS OR THEFT: has broken into someone else’s house, often lies to obtain goods or favors, shoplifting without breaking or entering
SERIOUS VIOLATIONS OF RULES: stays out at night despite parental prohibitions beginning before the age of 13, has run away from home at least twice while living in parental home or once without returning for a lengthy time, truaut from school before 13
NCP for risk for other-directed violence and nursing interventions
STG: patient discusses feelings of anger with nurse or therapist
LTG: patient dow not harm others or property
INTERVENTIONS: observe patient behavior frequently throughout routine actives and interactions and become aware of agitators, redirect violent behavior with physical outlets for suppressed anger and frustration, encourage the patient to express anger appropriately, ensure a sufficient number of staff is available to indicate a show of strength, administer tranquilizing medication if ordered or use medical restraints or isolation if situation cannot be controlled
NCP for impaired social reaction and nursing interventions
STG: patient will interact in age-appropriate manner with nurse in one-to-one relationship within one week
LTG: patient is able to interact with staff and peers using age-appropriate behaviors
INTERVENTIONS: develop a trusting relationship with patient, discuss with patient which behaviors are and are not acceptable, provide group situations for patient
NCP for defensive coping and nursing care plan.
STG: patient verbalized personal responsibility for difficulties experienced in interpersonal relationships within a time period reasonable for the patient
LTG: patient accepts responsibility for own behaviors and interacts with others without becoming defensive
INTERVENTIONS: explain correlation between feelings of inadequacy and the need for acceptance from other an how these feelings provoke violence, provide immediate matter-of-fact nonthreatening feedback for unacceptable behavior, help identify situations that provoke defensiveness, provide immediate positive feedback for accepted behaviors
NCP for low self-esteem and nursing interventions.
STG: patient participates in own self-care and discusses aspects that makes the patient feel good with the nurse
LTG: patient demonstrates increased feeling of self-worth by verbalizing positive statements about self
INTERVENTIONS: ensure realistic patient goals, plan activities that provide opportunities for success, convey unconditional acceptance and positive regard, set limits of manipulative behaviors, help patient to understand the he/she uses manipulation to increase self-esteem
