What is a business process?
Network of activities, repositories, roles, resources, and data flows that interact to accomplish a business function.
Examples: Insurance claim and settling the claim, applying to universities, procedure to pay, etc.
What can you use documentation for?
Communication with subject matter experts and the persons responsible from tasks being documented.
Key elements of documenting business processes
Tasks: Input, modify, output
Decisions: Two or more alternatives to choose from.
Sequencing/Flows: Temporal representation. What should get done first, second, so on
Identity: Who will do what thing. Choosing roles
What is business process management (BPM)
Body of methods to design, analyze, execute, and monitor business operations involving humans, software, information and physical artifacts using process models.
