Bushfire status: Going
Fire expanding in a certain direction/s
Example: The bushfire is currently going northwards.
Bushfire status: Contained
The spread of fire is halted
Example: The firefighters have successfully contained the bushfire.
Bushfire status: Controlled
The complete perimeter of a fire is secured and no breakaway is expected
Example: The authorities have declared the bushfire to be controlled.
Bushfire status: Safe
No further suppression action or patrols are necessary
Fire Spread: Dead man zone
The distance a line of fire will spread in a five minute period when a fire rapidly accelerated due to changes in wind direction, fire traveling on level ground then onto slope
FOR EVERY 10 degrees OF UPSLOPE, DOUBLE THE RATE OF SPREAD, FOR EVERY 10 degrees OF DOWNSLOPE, HALF THE RATE OF SPREAD.
