Bunt Coverages

Question 1

Regular bunt coverage

Answer 1

Color is red - 1st charges only if ball is bunted hard at him otherwise cover base

Pitcher - charges his third and 1st base third of the field if bunted thier field and throw to first if ball bunted to 3rd cover 3rd base

3rd base - charges on his third of the field if its not bunted to him then cover your base

2nd - covers 1st base if bunted hard at first if not then back up throw to 1st

SS - cover 2nd base

Catcher - covers close to home and calls out which base to throw too

If nothing is said by coach always do this coverage

Read bunt coverage

Answer 2

Sign is royal called out

1st - charges no matter what and covers his third and pitchers 3rd of field

Pitcher - charges and covers 3rd bases third of field if ball is bunted thier then field and throw to 3rd if bunted past you then cover third, pitcher must come set long enough for players to cheat into position

3b - covers 3rd but if ball makes it past pitcher field and throw to 1st

2b - covers 1st

SS - covers 2nd base

Catcher - covers area infront of home calls out where to throw

We run this play to get the royal out at third

Wheel bunt coverage

Answer 3

Sign is white called out -

1st - charges his third of field

Pitcher - needs to say set long enough for all players to cheat into position

3b - charges his third of the field but not to soon as the runner at second will get a good jump seeing no one there

2nd - covers 1st base, cheats over a bit but does not go there till SS gives the cue

SS - once the pitcher comes set the ss tries to make the 2nd base runner take a few steps back by calling for ball slapping his glove and holding him on, then SS sprints to 3rd base and once he knows he can beat runner there slaps his glove to cue pitcher to pitch and other players to get into position then field the bunt and throw to 3rd.

Fake wheel bunt coverage

Sign is fig called out -

Same movements as wheel white play but instead of pitcher pitching the pitcher does a pick off move to 2nd base

2nd base - picks off the runner

Good to call to make sure team is bunting or they have seen the coverage and mite try a big lead at second.

Bunt coverage switch up process

Answer 5

Coach may sign whatever the second color said is the coverage. So if i say white, red, fig then red regular is the coverage. May use 3rd color or 1st color.
