Baserunning Signs Flashcards
Indicator for the sign
Anywhere on the head face or hat. This indicates that the next body part touched is the signal
Sign for steal
After the head or hat is touched the shoulder is touched.
Decoy sign
I will give sign and anywhere within sign i bump my fists together it means its a decoy and there is no sign. It’s just play baseball.
Same sign
After a pitch or play the same sign is still on unless i give decoy sign cancelling it or give another sign.
Bunt signal
After indicator (head face or hat touch) will clap. Player will show bunt during wind up.
Bunt for a hit signal (drag bunt)
After indicator (face head or hat touch) i will clap with a closed grip. Player should Not show bunt till ball is half way to plate. Its a suprise.
Multiple signals
I may touch my head or hat multiple times. The signal is always body part touched after the last time I touched my head or hat. So see whole signal. Every pitch look at 3rd base coach for signal. Step out every time
Hit and run signal
After indicator (face head or hat touch) i will touch the forearm. Hitter swings at any pitch trying to put it in play while baserunners steal. Except for 3rd.
Fifty fifty steal
After indicator (face head or hat touch) i will touch my legs. Runner runs slowly to next base trying to bait a throw so third runner can get home. If it doesnt work quickly take second, if it works get back to first.
Take sign
i will start the sign with a touch to the chest then proceed to give the base runner his sign. Player does not swing, this sign is in place till i take it off verbally or with decoy signal.
Bait throw signal
1st or 3rd base coach will touch his chest and point to next base, player should round base and bait a throw, if he never throws steal it, if he throws to lead base wait to see if it wild, if he throws to back base steal it. Be aggressive.
On base awareness
If your on base and notice the pitcher never looks over or has no pick off move you can steel 3rd on your own
