What is bullous pemphigoid?
A
An autoimmune condition causing sub-epidermal blistering of the skin.

What proteins are antibodies developed against in bullous pemphigoid?
A
Antibodies developed against hemidesmosomal proteins BP180 and BP230

How does bullous pemphigoid present?
A
Itchy, tense blisters typically around flexures
Usually heal without scarring
Mouth is usually spared
More common in elderly patients

How is bullous pemphigoid diagnosed?
A
Immunofluorescence shows IgG and C3 at the dermoepidermal junction

What is the managment of bullous pemphigoid?
A
Oral corticosteroids
Topical corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and antibiotics
