What do Clients do?
The people that commission the project
What does a Quantity Surveyor do?
They do cost planning and commercial management throughout the project
What do Conservation Bodies do?
They work together to conserve and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of cities and towns
What do Architects do?
They design new buildings, extensions or alterations to existing buildings
What does an Interior Designer do?
They are involved in the design or renovation of internal spaces, including structural alterations, furnishings, fixtures and fittings, lighting and colour schemes.
What do Landscape Architects do?
They plan, design and manage open spaces including both natural and built environments.
What do Town Planners do?
They are involved in making long and short-term decisions about the management and development of cities, towns, villages and the countryside.
What do Building Surveyors do?
Provide professional advice on property and construction, which spans across residential, commercial, industrial, leisure and agriculture projects.
What do Construction Trades do?
This comprises of all trades such as joiners, electricians, plumbers e.c.t.
These people will be specialist in their trade and used to construct items within buildings as required by their skill set.
Explain Location Plans
The location plan identifies the location of a proposed site/new building within its surroundings/local area. It helps with planning the layout of a new project.
The new building and plot are outlined with a thick black line
The scale of the drawing is normally 1:1250.
Explain Site Plans
A site plan, shows the site boundary and the outline of the new building
Explain Floor Plans
A floor plan, shows the inside of the house, highlighting the layout/position of rooms, windows, doors, fixtures and fittings.
These are commonly drawn at a scale of 1:100 or 1:50.
Explain Fixture Plans
A fixture plan, provide a more detailed floor plan, clearly showing how the positioning of fixtures/fittings within a room.
These may also link in with services layers
These are commonly drawn at a scale of 1:25.
What is a Topographical survey?
Used to identify and plan around the lay of the land in terms of contours (how steep the land is) and existing natural/man made features
What is an Underground survey?
Used to assess the suitability of the land being built on.
This will include looking at depth of substrate, the type of substrate in order to determine the best foundations for the building
