  • Actions taken by individuals or group to protect, care or responsibly use the enviroment to pursue enviromental or social outcomes.
  • Practised by individuals, goverments, organizations
  • Actions involved:
    + Conserve natural resources
    + Preserve existing natural environment
    + Repair and reverse the damages caused by human
  • Can be achieved by:
    + Promote voluntereerism, so that residents can be aware what they should to protect, and responsibly use the enviroment)
    (NParks Board- Friends of the Parks)
    + Partnership with stakeholder to contribute to environment stewardship efforts.
    (e.g: National Environment Agency=> Engage residents on importance of waste recycling)

A
  • Plans and actions taken to prevent new risks from happening, reducing existing risks and manage disaster risks
  • Strengthen community resillience
  • Strategies to reduce
    + exposure to hazard
    + vulnerability to hazard
    e.g: SCDF: Singapore Civil Defence Foorce)- secure public safety, prevent disease, injury
  • Focus on:
    + Improve emergency preparedness
  • CEPP: Community Emergency Preparedness programme to provide life-saving skills

    Public Warning System: warns public of imminent threats(disaster)

Community Resillience

A
  • People come together to resist, adapt, recover from impacts of disasters in timely, efficent manner
    Developed by:
  • Strengthen relationships+ Raising awareness
    => DRM effective when wide spread support, participation.
  • Residents are encourage to build close relationships
    e.g: During covid-19, there are residents putting mask and hand sanitizers on the lift of the HDB.
  • Developing abilities to organize and equip themselves with resources to resist, adapt and recover from disaster
  • involvd in planning process with community leaders, organization and government to minimize potential hazards, understanding the risks
    e.g: The total defence framework to response to threats and build a strong, secure, cohesive nation
