Bryophytes Flashcards
examples
mosses, liverworts, hornworts
Vascular tissue?
none
conditions for growth?
moist/ shady
Structure of gametophytic and sporophytic generations (7)
GAMEATOPHYTIC:
Thallus- undifferentiated plant body (no true roots, stems and leaves)
Rhizoid- filamentous-anchorage and absorption
leaf and stems-like structures
SPOROPHYTIC:
foot: attach to the gametophyte
seta: hold up sporangium for spore dispersal
Sporangium: produce mature spores = disperses
calyptra- covers sporangium
Which generation is more dominant?
Gametophytic
The life cycle of bryophyte?
Gametophyte- diploid- produces haploid ova and sperm- sperm uses water to travel to and fertilize ova- develops into sporophytic generation- sporangium dries out and disperses spores (wind/ soil)
