Causes - viral - RSV
Symptoms - Runny nose, Nasal congestion, Wheezing, cough
Results into hypothermia because lungs can’t get o2

Bronchiolitis pathophysiology

A

Early stage - URI, RSV, Nasal congestion and Runny nose
Later stage - LRI, Hypoxemia, Wheezing Bronchioles get narrow due to exam mucus production from glands due to inflammatory response, necrosis occurs and debri settles down in Alveoli leading to alveolar expansion -> inefficient gas exchange

Bronchiolitis diagnosis

A

Fever, low o2, high heart rate,
Differential diagnoses and- asthma, allergic reaction, pneumonia, aspirations
Diagnostic test - Nasal swab, CXR (shows Peribronchiolar cuffing (Cheerios looking) , Air trapping / hyperventilation

Bronchiolitis treatment

A

Supportive treatment - hydration, rest, nutrition, improved breathing - oxygen , beta agonists (bronchodilation) hypertonic saline (breaks mucus and clears airways), Corticosteroids, Epinephrine.
