Management of bronchiolitis
Ensure adequate intake, saline nasal drops, nasal suctioning, supplemental oxygen or ventilatory support if required
What is given in high risk babies against bronchiolitis
Palivizumab
When would you admit a child to hospital with bronchiolitis
Aged under 3 months, pre existing condition, 50-75% less of normal intake, clinical dehydration, resp rate >70, O2 sats <92%, apnoeas, moderate to severe respitatory distress
Most common cause of bronchiolitis
RSV (80%)
Presentation of bronchiolitis
Cough, laboured breathing, wheeze, tachypnoea, signs of respiratory distress, coryzal symptoms, mild fever, poor feeding
Age of child most likely affected by bronchiolitis
Aged 1-6 months
What is bronchiolitis
Inflammation of the bronchioles
How long does the cough last
Can continue up to a couple months after
Which day of infection is bronchiolitis typically worse on
Days 3-5
