- if a slave did run away they would be whipped, branded or chained up

yellow fever which killed many slaves and survivors had to work extra hours

20 slaves met by river bridge stole guns and killed owners of a local store and headed to florida
on way they killed 20 whites, burned plantations
white militia was formed and killed many of the slaves but about 30 escaped
