Facts about the Anglos Saxons
• Anglo-Saxons drove many of the remaining British tribes into Wales, Cornwall, Cumbria and Scotland.
• Named days of the week after their Gods (e.g. Thursday - Thunor)
• Anglo-Saxon is one of the key base languages of English.
• Gave England its name, Angle-land.
• Many towns named by Anglo-Saxons (towns which end in ton, wich, worth, burn, ham, and hurst)
• They were excellent farmers.
• Counties named after the Anglo-Saxons such as Anglia and Essex.

The late 8th century (late 700s), they were referred to as the ‘Danes’ by the Anglo-Saxons
What did the Vikings do
They stole valuable treasures such as gold, jewels, and books. They also took food, cattle, clothes, and tools.
Facts about the vikings
• There were many battles between the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings took control of most of the large kingdoms
• Country was split into two, Anglo-Saxon lands in the south, and west and the Viking lands in the north and east
• After manys years of fighting, they became neighbours and there were many years of peace

His father was an Anglo-Saxon and his mother had once been married to a Viking King

Facts about the Normans
• Normans controlled England and wales but failed to take over Scotland and most of Ireland
• They built many fine castles and Cathedrals that still stand today
• Over 10,000 words in our dictoniary comes from these French settlers
• They invented surnames
• They introduced deers, pheasants and rabbits.
• Planted the New Forest to hunt these animals they introduced
• Intoduced many new laws, traditions and customs which are still used today.
What did the Romans call Britain
Brittania as it comes from Prettania, which is what the Greeks called the British Isles it as they thought there was a Celtic tribe called the ‘Pretani’ which lived there. However the Pretani tribe lived mainly in Ireland.
