- Now used for bipolar, bulimia, and SUD
- Influenced by Meyer’s psychobiological approach, Sullivan’s interpersonal theory, and Bowlby’s attachment theory
- Early experiences, biological predisposition, and personality
- Combines elements of psychodynamic and CBT

Goals = improved interpersonal functioning and symptom reduction.
Interventions = Education, instillation of hope, pharmacotherapy, and interventions targeting interpersonal functioning
Primary Problem areas = Unresolved grief, interpersonal role disputes, role transitions, interpersonal deficits.
Phases of therapy = 1. initial (assessment) 2. Interventions. 3. Review of progress and termination.
