lymph channels blocked by CA

orange peel appearance caused by metastatic disease blocking lymph nodes

red & crusty -> indicative of Pagets disease

drainage may indicate CA
- inversion- may be normal
- retraction- recent change may be CA
palpation
- palpate axillary & clavicular nodes
- stand in front of client to palp.
- arm of breast palp. over head w/ small pillow under boob
purpose: to flatten breast tissue & facilitate ability to feel masses
self-breast exam why
- most breast CA discovered by women themselves
- most lumps benign
- 1 out of 8-9 woman get breast cancer
self-breast exam when
- same time every month
- 1 week after period when breasts not tender or swollen
- after menopause, check first day of every month
- begin at 14-15
Pap test

nursing history
- increase urination
- nocturia
- pain or burning w/ pee
- trouble starting or maintaining urine
- color change
- past med history
- present sexual relationship
- STD contact
phimosis
tight foreskin that cannot be retracted
smegna
whitish material under foreskin
inspect testes for inguinal hernias
- bulges
- ask client to bear down
palpate scrotum & testicles
- between 1st and 2nd fingers
- palpate for masses, swelling, or tenderness

- why
- if discovered early
- treatment
why: testicular cancer is most common cause of cancer in men 15-35
- if early, can be treated promptly and effectively
- surgery is preferred treatment, may be used with chemotherapy & radiation
signs & symptoms of testicular cancer
- lump or enlargement in either testicle
- feeling of heaviness in scrotum
- dull ache in abdomen or groin
- sudden collection of fluid in scrotum
- pain or discomfort in a testicle / scrotum
when do TSE
- begin w/ boys age 14-15
- monthly
- after a warm bath or shower / when skin most relaxed
- roll each testicle gently between the thumb & fingers of both hands
