  • culture positive

Flucloxacillin 10-14 days

Breast abscess may develop if untreated - usually requires incision and drainage

A

Milk build up usually in first few days after birth and always affects both breasts

Pain worse just before feed
Poor milk flow and difficulty in latching and suckling
Breasts may appear red

Complications include blockage, mastitis and difficulties in feeding and milk supply

Although painful, hand expression of milk relieves pain

Symptoms of Raynaud’s of the nipple?

Treatment?

A

Nipple pain during and after feeding, followed by cyanosis and/or erythema. Pain resolves when colour returns to normal

Heat packs to nipple following feed, avoid cold exposure, avoid caffeine and smoking
Nifedipine can be used off license

A

Usually in women who have recently stopped breastfeeding due to blockage of lactiferous duct

Grape-sized cystic lesion, painless, firm
Aspiration = yellow fluid
