Branches of the abdominal aorta II Flashcards
What do branches of the superior mesenteric artery supply?
The small and large intestines, from the inferior duodenum to the right colic flexure of the colon
Where does the inferior pancreaticduodenal arise from? and what does it supply?
It arises from the superior mesenteric. It supplies the inferior part of the duodenum and pancreas and anastomoses with its superior counterpart.
What are arcades?
Numerous branches of the superior mesenteric artery that form large loops in the mesentery. They supply the jejunum and ileum.
What does the ilecolic artery supply?
The terminal ileum, vermiform appendix and inferior ascending colon.
What does the right colic artery supply?
The superior ascending colon.
What does the middle colic artery supply?
The transverse colon.
What do branches of the inferior mesenteric artery supply?
The large intestines distal to the right colic flexure, to the rectum.
What does the left colic artery supply?
The descending colon. It also anastomoses with the middle colic artery of the superior mesenteric artery.
What do the sigmoid arteries supply?
The sigmoid colon.
What does the superior rectal artery supply?
The proximal rectum. The distal rectum is not supplied by the abdominal aorta.
