Brainstem and Cranial Nerves Flashcards
What is found on top of the midbrain?
Thalamus and the Hypothalamus.
Describe the structure of the brainstem.
(Forebrain)Midbrain- Pons-Medulla (Spinal cord inf)(Cerebellum post)
What does the Medulla consist of?
The pyramids (Descending tracts) and on the tip of it is the spinal cord.
What is the role of the Corpus Callosum?
Seperates the R and L hemispheres. (Located on top of thalamus)
Which cranial nerves are associated with the Brain stem?
11 cranial nerves, except for the olfactory which arises from the ciribriforum of the ethmoid bone.
What is the Cranial nerve function and the conduit function responsible for as part of the brainstem functions?
Cranial Nerve functions contain the cranial nerve nuclei which carry the nerves to their appropriate place.
Conduit Functions- Carry ascending and descending pathways that transmit sensorimotor info to the forebrain and cortex.
