4 stages
What is two main states of sleep?
Slow wave sleep (SWS) and rapid eye movement sleep (REM)
How long last cycle of sleep and each part?
90 minutes, 75-80 of SWS and 10-15 of REM
What keep us awake?
Neurotransmitters acetylcholine, norepinephrine, serotonin and glutamate
What is factors that drive us to sleep?
Circadian system (time) and homeostatic system (time without sleep)
What is circadian system regulated with?
Suprachiasmatic nucleus
What chemical is important for sleep?
Adenosine
What is insomnia?
Hard to fall asleep, wake up during night
What is sleep apnea?
Airway muscles relax during sleep
What is narcolepsy?
Sleep attacks during day
What is arousal?
Motivation to do an action
What is dopamine for?
Movement
What is norepinephrine for?
Alertness
What is serotonin for?
Emotion
What is voluntary attention?
