Q

Give a disadvantage of fMRI scans

A

Only shows which part of the brain is active, not what it is doing

Q

What is the process of PET scans?

A
  • A radioactive chemical is injected into the blood

- As it breaks ddown, it releases radioactivity into the blood which is picked up on the scan

15
Q

Give 3 advantages of PET scans

A
  • Helps to see where exactly activity is happening
  • Simple procedure
  • Easy to interpret as it’s colour co-ordinated

16
Q

Give 2 disadvantages of PET scans

A
  • Long procedure

- Certain people can’t have them due to levels of radioactivity

17
Q

What happens in CT scans?

A

Several X-Ray beams are focused on certain parts of the brain and combined together to form a 3D image

18
Q

What do CT scans allow us to see?

A

The structure of the brain

19
Q

Give 1 advantage of CT scans

A

Give quick and accurate results

20
Q

Give 1 disadvantage of CT scans

A

Risky due to radiation exposure
