brain imaging Flashcards
what is an EEG?
(elecctroencephalogram)
and what is the meathos used
a test that detects abnormalities in your brain waves.
electrodes are places onto your scalp and they detect tiny electrical charges from your brain cells
what is an EEG used for? eg.
to diagnose neurological conditions
eg. epilepsy, sleep disorder, brain injury assesment
what does the output image of a EGG look like?
static
what does the output image of a CT scan look like?
static
what is an CT used for? eg.
bone fractures or eroding, guiding medical procedures
what is a CT
(computed tomography)
uses Xrays to create a detailed cross section of the body by rotating a Xray source and capturing multiple “slices” then uses a computer to put then together
what is an MRI
(magnetic resonance imaging)
a imagine technique that uses a magnetic feild and computer generated radio waves to creat detailed images
what is a MRI used for?
diagnosing condtions affecting the brain, spinal cord, muscles etc
what does the output image of a MRI look like?
dynamic
- live changes
- moving image
what is a fMRI?
(functional magnetic resonance image)
it measures brain activity by detecting changes in the level of oxygen which shows what ares are active while doing a task.
what does the output image of a fMRI look like?
dynamic
- live changes
- moving image
what is a fMRI used for?
plan brain surgeries, assessing neurological condition by identifying affected brain areas.
