Brain Flashcards
The forebrain has two extensions that grow out to form the
cerebral hemispheres
Surrounds midbrain and rest of forebrain
cerebral hemispheres
Part of the hindbrain enlarges and becomes the
cerebellum
The central canal of the neural tube enlarges and becomes the
ventricles
the area between the dura mater and the walls of the vertebral canal
epidural space
the potential space between the dura mater and the arachnoid mater (typically doesn’t exist in healthy individuals)
subdural space
goes into the longitudinal fissure to crista galli of ethmoid bone (forming superior sagittal sinus
falx cerebri
separates the 2 cerebellar hemispheres
falx cerebelli
separates the cerebrum from the cerebellum
tentorium cerebelli
Layers of the dura mater
- periosteal layer
2. meningeal layer
protrude through the dura mater and allows CSF to drain back into the venous circulation via the superior sagittal sinus and other dural sinuses.
arachnoid villi
arachnoid villi protrude through the dura mater and allows CSF to drain back into the venous circulation via the
superior sagittal sinus
contains CSF
subacrachnoid space
