Brain 11 Flashcards
1
Q
The meninges consist of which 3 layers?
A
Dura mater - next to skull
Arachnoid mater
Pia mater - next to brain
2
Q
Describe the Dura Mater
A
- Thick, tough & durable membrane.
- Dense fibrous connective tissue
- 2 Layers: superficial layer-periosteal & deep layer- Meningeal
3
Q
Within the dura mater the periosteal & Meningeal layer separate & form folds that section the brain into four regions. Name the folds and the seperations
A
*Falx cerbri separates the cerebral hemispheres
*Tentorium Cerebelli separates the occipital lobes from the cerebellum
Falx Cerebelli separates the cerebellar hemispheres
4
Q
Describe the Arachnoid mater
A
- Directly under the Dura mater. The 2 membranes are not physically connected- with a “space” inbetween.
- Very thin & transparent membrane that lies on top of cerebral spinal fluid directly inferior to the membrane which together cushions the CNS
