Brain 10 Flashcards
learning
the acquisition of information
memory
the retention and storage of that information
explicit memory
declarative or recognition
involves the hypocampus and remembers events, words, rules, language, etc.
Usually explicit memory is used before implicit memory.
implicit memory

short term memory
can last seconds to hours
long term memory
stores information for years or even a lifetime and its capacity appears to be limitless
working memory
is a form of short term memory that keeps information ready for very short periods of time.
Working memory is usually limited to seven or eight chunks of information.
memory storage
involves the dendritic changes, new protein synthesis, size and number of synaptic terminals and alterations in the release of neurotransmitters.
