Brachytherapy & Radioimmunotherapy Flashcards
1
Q
Location-wise, what are the two types of brachytherapy?
A
Intracavitary and interstitial
2
Q
What is intracavitary brachytherapy?
A
Placing radioactive sources into a body cavity such as cervix for cervical cancer
3
Q
What is interstitial brachytherapy?
A
Implanting radioactive sources directly into the tumor and adjacent normal tissue
4
Q
For intracavitary brachytherapy, what are the two types of (dose-wise) brachytherapy?
A
LDR which usually takes 1-4 days at 50 cGy/day
HDR which delivers in 3-12 dose fractions and is replacing LDR
5
Q
What are two most common radioactive isotopes for interstitial brachytherapy?
A
Iridium-192 and Iodine-125
