Brachial plexus Flashcards
surroundings of the axilla
Posterior wall: 1. Scapula 2. Subscapularis 3. Insertion of latissimus dorsi 4. Teres major Lateral wall: Intertubercular groove of humerus
Anterior wall:
1. Pectoralis major muscle
2. Pectoralis minor muscle
Medial wall:
- Upper 4-5 ribs
- Intercostal muscles
- Serratus anterior muscle
Subscapularis
posterior of scapula
origins of latissimus dorsi & trees major
-latissimus dorsi inserst anterior to teres major
name changes for subclavian artery
Subclavian artery changes name to axillary artery at anterior dotted, then changes name at again to brachial artery at inferior dots
dcap
Deltoid, clavicular acromonial, pectoral
Lymph-
Lymph- one way system of getting read of foreign or infected things in the body
thoracic duct vs right lymphatic duct
Waste up on right side is handled by right lymphatic duct
Thoracic duct- lower body and left side
vertebrae associated with brachial plexus
and order of sections of brachial plexus
c5, 56,c7,c8,t1
rami to- to trunks- to divisions- cords(3 related to their relationship to the axillary artery-to terminal branches
M
should be under pec minor (right at armpit area)
Ulnar nerve will go posterior to elbow. Medial goes anterior to elbow
Anterior nerves do flexion
Posterior nerves do extension
*
musculocutaneous nerve
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5-C7): Innervates muscles of anterior arm
Lateral pectoral nerve
Lateral pectoral nerve:
Motor to pectoralis major
lateral looks like its going medial on corps
Medial pectoral nerve:
Medial pectoral nerve:
Motor to pectoralis major and pectoralis minor
ulnar nerve
Ulnar is 5th and half of 4th digit (yellow)
Median nerve:
purple
Median nerve:
- Motor to most muscles of anterior forearm
- Motor to some intrinsic muscles of hand [thenar (thumb) muscles and lateral 2 lumbricals]
- Sensory to lateral 2/3rd of palm and palmar side of lateral 3.5 fingers and their nail beds
radial nerve; posterior
Radial nerve:
- Motor to extensors of posterior arm and posterior forearm
- Sensory to skin of posterior arm, posterior forearm, dorsolateral hand, and proximal part of dorsum of lateral 3.5 digits
Axillary nerve: posterior
Axillary nerve:
- Motor to deltoid and teres minor of shoulder
- Sensory to skin of upper lateral arm
Lower subscapular nerve: posterior
Lower subscapular nerve: Motor to subscapularis and teres major
Middle subscapular (thoracodorsal) nerve:Posterior
Middle subscapular (thoracodorsal) nerve: Motor to latissimus dorsi
Upper subscapular nerve: posterior
Upper subscapular nerve: Motor to subscapularis
Dorsal scapular nerve (C5):
Dorsal scapular nerve (C5):
Motor to levator scapulae, rhomboid major and rhomboid minor to scapula
Long thoracic nerve (C5-C7)
Long thoracic nerve (C5-C7)
(nerve to serratus anterior)
Suprascapular nerve (C5, C6):
Motor to supraspinatus and infraspintus of scapula
Nerve to subclavius:
Nerve to subclavius:
Motor to subclavius muscle
